Why did you want to become a CPFO?

I wanted to become a CPFO to gain a better understanding in the areas of finance in which I don’t have much experience yet as well as allow me to better interconnect the areas. I further thought the CPFO designation would be a great professional supplement to my MBA and local organization certifications and facilitate me being a more well-rounded finance professional.

What did you learn going through the process?

Going through the process, I was able to learn so many things. First, it strengthened the areas which I don’t deal with often such as treasury investments and management. Second, I found the support of the CPFO candidate forum to not only be helpful but also a wonderful network of professionals.  Everyone was so incredibly honest, driven, supportive and we celebrated each other’s successes.

How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?

The CPFO designation has helped establish a new level of self-confidence and professionalism as well as enhanced my competency across all areas. It has given me a better understanding and increased knowledge of government finance as a whole. I hope to use what I’ve gained and serve as a mentor to those around me as well as in my professional networks.

What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

Don’t hesitate! The knowledge gained is invaluable, and I would encourage others to take the next step in expanding their professionalism, expertise, and professional network.
