Job Description: 

SFID is seeking a detail-oriented, dependable and adaptable Accounting Technician who will be solely responsible for accounts payable for the District and payroll for 44 employees. Under direction of the Administrative Services Manager, the position requires diligence to conform to pertinent laws, maintain the integrity of a wide range of sensitive data and uphold organization in reports and files. Candidates for this position should be self-motivated, possess exceptional organization and customer service skills; and must be skilled and have proven experience in Microsoft Excel, payroll reporting and accounts payable or related duties. The Accounting Technician serves as a key team player in the District’s Administrative Department and is expected to add to the collaborative and positive work environment of the organization. The position will be vacated by the long-term incumbent due to retirement. Essential Duties: Performs specialized and detailed work in the review and processing of various financial records and related materials; ensures the integrity of data and information related to area of assignment which includes accounts payable and payroll, Prepares, compiles, tabulates and maintains data and documents; assists with preparing technical financial, statistical and operational reports, statements and records, Analyzes and reconciles a variety of journals, accounts, reports and records; prepares, processes, and maintains accounting system records and transactions, Prepares journal entries and general ledger reconciliations and performs month and year-end closing of accounting records; assists with budget development and monitoring, Responds to inquiries from the public in person, by telephone, and/or in writing, regarding areas of responsibility and initiates appropriate action to resolve problems, Researches and answers employee and District departments’ inquiries regarding payroll, reimbursements, and the status of accounts and payments, including proper transaction coding and related matters, May plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of customer service related duties, Develops schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner, Updates and closes purchase order files, Observes safe work practices and ensures that proper safety practices and procedures are followed, Builds and maintains positive customer-focused service processes and working relationships with co-workers, other District employees and the public using principles of good customer service, Performs related duties as assigned. Training & Experience: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Two years of responsible technical accounting experience that includes the processing of payroll or similar duties, reconciliation of various types of accounts, and preparation of journal entries. Equivalent to an Associate’s degree with coursework in accounting, finance or a related field.
