The City of Virginia Beach is seeking an Accountant I/II or II (DOQ) that will be able to work independently to complete difficult and complex research, analysis, development and summarization of financial information for audit purposes and financial reporting.
Assist in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), State Cost Report, monthly financial statements, Indirect Cost report and other reports.
Participate in the performance of special studies and assignments involving the investigation and resolution of issues arising from the application of new accounting regulations and procedures.
Assist management in the interpretation and applicability of accounting principles and auditing standards as it relates to the administration, reporting and accounting for various programs, grants, revenue and capital project endeavors.
Assist in the financial oversight of grants/awards to ensure compliance with grantor financial requirements.
Work with statistical tables, federally mandated annual financial and compliance audits involving internal and independent auditors.
At the level III, in addition to above duties, responsibilities will include but not limited to: Assist in implementing generally accepted accounting principles as they apply to governmental financial reporting and to ensure an unmodified opinion from the independent auditors on the City’s CAFR.
Provide guidance to accounting staff and City departments on appropriate governmental accounting procedures and city finance guidelines, policies and procedures.
Understands accounting for bonds, capital projects and fixed assets.
This position may be filled as an Accountant I, II, or III depending on the qualifications
Salary Ranges: Accountant I: $45,552.00 – $69,929.60 Accountant II: $50,273.60 – $77,188.80 Accountant III: $61,256.00 – $94,036.80
