Job Description: 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing the financial activities of the entire company. The CFO plans, manages and leads the financial reporting and controls, tax reporting, University/college payroll and contribution reporting, system planning and budgeting, system appropriations, and develops policies. The CFO reports directly to the Executive Director and supervises a staff five employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The CFO will serve as a resource to the board of trustees, executive director, administration, managers and employees. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Direct responsibility for planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Division in compliance with the applicable state and federal laws, the Illinois Compiled Statutes, and the rules, policies and procedures of the SURS Board of Trustees and managing the financial risk • Manage the preparation of the monthly and annual financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles • Manage or prepare compliance/regulatory reports and correspondence • Assist in the ongoing monitoring of the DC plan investment managers and investment options • Responsible for SURS Employer payroll and contribution processing • Manage all aspects of the actuarial responsibilities • Act as the procurement officer for the system Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or Business – advanced degree preferred • Certified Public Accountant designation • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in public pension, state government or higher education accounting office, or related experience • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at the executive management level in pension fund administration, higher education finance, or related experience • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing, developing, and motivation staff • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills Apply for the this Position Applicants should submit a SURS application, resume, and a cover letter to This position is subject to a background.
