Job Description: 

The City of Huntington Beach is located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean in northwestern Orange County, 40 miles south of Los Angeles and 90 miles north of San Diego. As the fourth largest city in Orange County, with a population approximating 200,000 residents, Huntington Beach is known as “Surf City USA” due to its abundance of beaches, sunny and warm Mediterranean climate, and casual lifestyle. The City is seeking a dynamic, experienced professional with strong collaborative leadership skills and demonstrated expertise in all areas of municipal government finance to lead the City’s Finance Department. The ideal candidate will be someone with a balance of technical skills and personal attributes who is capable of leading the Department toward established goals. He or she will be fiscally conservative, creative and innovative in his or her approach to problem-solving, and view challenges as opportunities. The selected candidate will be highly organized, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position is qualifying. Typically, a Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Public Administration, including courses in advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, and business law, and six (6) years of responsible executive-level financial experience including at least four (4) years in a supervisory capacity, would provide such opportunity. Professional certification (e.g., CPA) is not required, but preferred. A valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record is required.
