Salary The salary range for this position is between $40,000 – $50,000 per year, depending on E/E.

Overview The Town of Westerly is accepting applications for the position of Accountant. This position is responsible for performing complex accounting duties and maintenance of accounting records.

What You Should Bring The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business/Public Administration or closely related field. The candidate will also have a minimum of three years of complex financial and accounting work experience.

The Opportunity The Accountant works in the Department of Finance and is located at Westerly Town Hall. Current hours are typically 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; however, flexibility is expected for this position, as this position’s workload changes based on operational demand. The individual in this exempt position will be expected to flex their work week in order to complete time sensitive projects. Some of the responsibilities are as follows: Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to a variety of problems, and considerable judgment in allocating charges and credits to proper accounts and funds. Prepares and maintains general ledger details and accounting records of all funds. Prepares and enters journal entries to general ledgers and maintains journal entries. Reviews monthly balance sheets and revenues/expenditures statements and periodically preforms balance sheet account analysis. Coordinates monthly closing and production/distribution of financial statements to guarantee timely reporting. Prepares regular and special financial and statistical reports for management review and use. Reviews cost and operating information to insure compliance with budget. Complies cost data for development budget. Prepares state reimbursement claims, supporting documentation, and all other governmental reports. Responsible for accounting of grants, as assigned. Prepares system update of daily cash receipts, annual budget, supplemental/transfers, ordinances, resolutions, and year-end appropriation transfer and/or supplemental appropriation. Performs monthly bank reconciliation. Reconciles all receivables monthly, including sewer assessment taxes, solid waste receipts, and water/sewer usage charges. Maintains all required documentation for auditors and for adjusting entries upon completion.
