Job Description: 

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a University Controller. The University Controller reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Business and Finance and is responsible for providing effective management, accountability, and custody of the financial assets of the University of Nevada, Reno. The position is an integral component of the central administration of the University.

This position’s major responsibilities include financial accountability and compliance with Federal, State and Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) requirements for accounting and financial management; approves the development and monitoring of effective financial policies and procedures for the University and communicates requirements to campus community; oversight of and participation in the preparation of financial statements; establishes and maintains internal controls to support financial management; coordination of external financial statement audit and communication with System Administration; coordinates and communicates intercompany transactions with other NSHE System Controllers; manages and oversees account analysis and reconciliation; and oversight and review of accounting adjustments, budget overrides and supplier payments.

Other responsibilities include: oversight of compliance for the Business and Finance unit including developing policies and procedures to ensure processes meet Federal, State and University requirements; trains staff; monitors and follows up on issues. Assists in the development and management of computer systems support for finance and administrative processes of the University. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the Controller’s Office professional accounting staff. Acts in the place of the Associate Vice President for Business and Finance when necessary.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years of related work experience or Master’s Degree and 5 years of related work experience which includes progressively responsible financial management experience to include college/university or governmental accounting; progressively responsible supervisory experience; and preparing, analyzing and presenting financial statements.

Preferred Qualification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
