SUMMARY: The Accountant III is responsible for performing complex accounting work in one or more areas of Finance. This position is expected to display considerable initiative in identifying ways to improve and/or streamline processes and internal controls within their areas of responsibility, as well as meeting deadlines. Additionally, this position independently performs complex financial analysis, prepares accounting and financial reports, evaluates financial transactions, can be involved in all aspects of the compilation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Accountant III is the third level in a three level Accountant class series.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution; experience equivalent to four (4) years of full-time professional level experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting or closely related financial/fiscal activity which includes some experience utilizing computer or personal computer-based financial system; including a minimum of one year lead/supervisory experience; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications: Experience in governmental accounting and preparation of the CAFR.
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret grant and contractual requirements and compliance.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and theory, GASB statements, and experience with computerized financial software systems and complex financial models.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO), Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
