Denver Water’s Finance Division is currently seeking a qualified Accounting Supervisor with a minimum of 7 years of related work experience and 3 years of supervisory experience. This position will supervise other Accounting professionals, technicians, and administrative staff, monitor compliance with internal control policies and legal requirements, and provide accounting guidance as it relates to any regulating agencies. The Accounting Supervisor will be in a position to provide leadership on special projects and support organization-wide initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Support the Accounting Manager, working collaboratively with other Accounting Supervisors, to successfully manage the Accounting Section. The accounting team is comprised of 20 staff with 4 Accounting Supervisors. The Accounting Supervisors provide leadership on financial reporting, general ledger production, enterprise risk management, budgeting, project management, payroll, and system reconciliations. • Accounts receivable with an average of 2,000 invoices issued per year; & accounts payable volume of 9,000 checks and 3,400 ACH transactions per year. • Maintain system of accounts. Report, analyze, and ensure integrity of all financial information. Preserve procedural and system documentation records, updating guidelines, standard work and policies as necessary. • Coordinate year-end and monthly close processes. • Support preparation of Annual Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and provide information for the external audit. Develop and analyze financial transactions, reviewing for accuracy and process efficiency. • Understand and educate others on the reconciliation of budget basis accounting to full GAAP accounting. • Take initiative to fully understand financial system, e.g., understand system impacts of accounts receivable, expense management and accounts payable modules on the general ledger. Review process efficiency and AAI’s that run on the system. Assess the utilization and development of reporting software used by Denver Water. • Support implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning system over the next several years. • Support the Finance Division in living the organization’s values and leadership team norms.
The following discipline(s) fall under this job description: • Accounting: Supervisor responsible for accounting and record keeping functions while establishing and maintaining accounting procedures and controls in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles; recording and processing payroll for Denver Water; providing input on financial system, process improvements, accounting-related reporting, and external audit.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Accounting or Financer a related field. • Minimum 7 years of related work experience with 3 years of supervisory experience. • Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.
Licenses, Registration and Certifications: • May require possession of a standard driver’s license (ability to obtain within 1 month of hire). • May require HIPAA Training.
