Hanover County is seeking an experienced professional to direct the daily financial operations of a AAA bond rated County. The Finance Division Director is a strategic partner for County and School staff to achieve financial goals of financial reporting, capital planning, debt management, self-insurance fund administration, grant accounting and financial system administration. The Division Director assists in the development of long term financial plans, and advises County Administration, Board of Supervisors, County and School departments and staff to maintain sound financial practices and internal controls.
The Director reports to the Director of Finance and Management Services and oversees a staff of eleven professionals who provide accounting services for payroll, accounts payables, and financial systems.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required (concentration in Accounting preferred) with at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, including supervision; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with local government experience preferred; Requires experience in financial reporting and forecasting, debt management, local government financial administration; financial operations (payroll, accounts payable). Extensive computer skills with emphasis on Excel required. – OR – Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
