The position of Senior Accountant performs complex professional-level accounting duties. Essential functions include analyzing detailed financial records; preparing financial statements and assisting with budget preparation; research and forecasting; and conducting and coordinating internal/external audits. Incumbent performs account reconciliation and prepares journal entries. The successful candidate recommends and implements improved processes as needed. The Senior Accountant may perform some advanced functions in the absence of department supervisor and may act in a lead capacity to Accounting Technicians. Duties performed must comply with all applicable government accounting standards.
Qualifications include graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting or a related field, plus two years of professional accounting experience. Public agency accounting experience is desirable.
Incumbent should have knowledge of the principles and practices of both fund and governmental accounting; auditing and reconciliation practices; and applicable federal, state, and local regulations or laws.
