GFOA Annual Run/Walk Recap

The conditions were not quite as nice on Sunday, June 28, 2009, for the GFOA's Annual 5k Run/Walk organized by GFOA's Local Seattle Conference Committee as they were the day before for Seattle's inaugural Rock 'n Roll marathon and half marathon. However, 65 dedicated runners (including one brave soul who also ran the half marathon the day before) and walkers got up early to experience the beautiful, albeit cloudy and cool, Seattle waterfront.

The walkers headed out around 8:00 a.m., and the runners left at 8:30 a.m. For some participants it was a competitive race, and for others an opportunity to get some exercise. The winner in the men's division was Steve George, who finished in a fast 18:05. Larry Freund followed a couple of minutes later. On the ladies side, Sara Gigliotti had a terrific performance of 20:15, which she achieved after running three miles just to get to the starting line. After the race, she ran 3 miles back to the hotel. Impressive.

Thank you to all who participated and to this year's sponsors. We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta!
