Robert Dean Pope is a partner in the law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP in its Richmond, Virginia office, where he has practiced public finance law since 1974.  Mr. Pope is currently President of the American College of Bond Counsel.  He has previously served as President of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (“NABL”), Vice Chairman of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board and an advisor to the Debt Committee of the Government Finance Officers Association (‘GFOA”).  In 2001, the GFOA published his book, Making Good Disclosure:  The Role and Responsibilities of State and Local Officials Under the Federal Securities Laws.

Mr. Pope currently serves as editor of The Bond Lawyer, a quarterly publication of NABL.  In 1994, NABL awarded him the Bernard F. Friel Medal for Contributions to Public Finance.  

Mr. Pope received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  He earned a Juris Doctor decree at the Yale Law School and a Ph.D. in history from Yale University.  He also holds a Diploma in Historical Studies from Cambridge University.
