Available Scholarships

The Government Finance Officers Association’s Scholarship Committee will review all applications and make an award if it determines that a candidate has met all of the crite-ria. Daniel B. Goldberg Scholarship: Jake Hersko, who will graduate next year with a MPA from Georgia State University – Andrew Young School of Public Policy. He currently works for the City of Roswell, Georgia, Finance Department as an intern/policy. After graduation he would like to continue working for the City of Roswell and aspires to be-come a finance director. Funded by the Girard Miller Foundation.

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship: J
ennifer Miller, who will graduate next year with a degree in accounting from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She currently works as an accounting intern for the Franklin County Auditor in Co-lumbus, Ohio, and this summer will work as a fellowship intern for the Ohio Auditor of State. She previously held an internship with the Ohio Department of Transportation. She plans to work in a governmental accounting position while continuing her education by earning a CPA and MBA. Funded by the Government Finance Officers Association.

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship:
Jose Marin, a graduate student in public administration at California State University, San Bernardino, who will graduate next year. He currently works as a fiscal specialist at the County of San Bernardino’s Public Health Department. He previously worked as an accounting technician for the United States Department of Defense. After graduation he wants to continue working for the County of San Bernardino and his career goal is to work as a budget or fiscal analyst with the County Administrative Office and one day become a county CFO or CEO. Funded by Siemens.

 


 

Daniel B. Goldberg Scholarship


The Daniel B. Goldberg Scholarship of $10,000 is available for award to a graduate stu-dent who is enrolled in full-time master’s study preparing for a career in state and local government finance. The winner of the scholarship is invited to attend the GFOA’s an-nual conference, where the award is presented. This scholarship is funded by the Girard Miller Foundation.

Eligibility:
  • Currently a full-time student in a graduate program that prepares students for ca-reers in state and local government finance and expecting to be enrolled in the spring semester of the year for which the scholarship is awarded (including gradu-ates of that spring semester).
  • Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation from student’s academic advisor or dean of the graduate pro-gram.
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship administered by the Govern-ment Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship

 

The GFOA’s Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship of $5,000 is available for award to one or more undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in full-time study preparing for a career in state and local government finance. The winner of the scholarship is invited to attend the GFOA’s annual conference, where the award is pre-sented. This scholarship is funded by the Government Finance Officers Association.

Eligibility:
  • Currently a full-time student in an accounting program who is preparing for a ca-reer in state and local government finance. Both advanced undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by student's academic advisor or the chair of the accounting program.
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship administered by the Govern-ment Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

 

The GFOA’s Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship of $5,000 is available for award to an upper-division undergraduate or graduate student of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administra-tion (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management). The purpose of the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship is to recognize outstanding performance by minority students preparing for careers in state and local government finance. The winner of the scholarship is invited to attend the GFOA’s annual conference, where the award is presented. This scholarship is funded by Siemens.

Eligibility:
  • Currently a full- or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, eco-nomics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or non-profit management).
  • Belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, American Indian or Alaskan native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by student’s academic advisor, department chair (undergraduate students), or dean of the graduate program (graduate students).
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship administered by the Govern-ment Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
