Bio: 

Michael A. Genito is a managing partner of Government R&D Center LLC. He also serves as Treasurer for the Village of Suffern, New York and as a Commissioner on the Board of the Rockland County Sewer District No. 1. He recently retired as the Commissioner of Finance and Budget Director for the City of White Plains, New York, where he has served in that capacity from January 2010 through July 2017. He began his career in local government finance as Treasurer for the Village of Suffern, New York, where he served from July 1984 through December 1990. In January 1991 he accepted the appointment as Director of Finance for the Town of Ramapo, New York and retained that position until April of 1996, when he was appointed to the position of Assistant City Manager/Comptroller for the City of Rye, New York. In January 2009 Mr. Genito left the City of Rye to assume the position of Executive Director for Pace University’s Edwin G. Michaelian Institute for Public Policy and Management through December 2009.

 

Mr. Genito holds an MPA in Government from Pace University; an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a BFA in Music from Ramapo College in New Jersey. He was among the first to receive the GFOA designation of Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) and the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) designation of Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM). He is also a Credentialed Municipal Finance Officer with the New York State Society of Municipal Finance Officers.

 

Mr. Genito has been and continues to be active in professional associations during his 30+ years in government, having served on the Executive Board of the GFOA; as a Board Member and Past-President of the New York State GFOA, and currently serving on the Board of Directors for the New York State Society of Municipal Finance Officers. Mr. Genito has served on a pro bono basis as a Board Member and President of the Ramapo Valley Rotary Club; Board Member and President of the Antrim Players; Executive Board Member of the White Plains Downtown District Management Association, Executive Board Member of the Energy Improvement Corporation (a not-for-profit organization) and as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Suffern Little League.

 

Mr. Genito’s speaking and instructional engagements include presentations before the GFOA, NYS-GFOA, Minnesota GFOA, New York Conference of Mayors, NYS Office of State Comptroller, Empire State Report Conference, Forbes New York Public Finance Symposium, New York State Society of CPAs, Connecticut Society of CPAs, Information Management Network, Bond Buyer Metro Conference, and a variety of others. Mr. Genito was a contributing editor to the current edition of the GFOA’s Governmental Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting (“the Blue Book”) and has authored articles in publications of the GFOA, NYS-GFOA, and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
