Heather A. Johnston, City Manager, City of Burnsville, Minnesota, became the new president of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) at the association’s annual business meeting on June 2, 2015. During the past year, Johnston served on the Executive Board as president-elect. She has been a member of the Executive Board since 2011. Johnston accepted the gavel from 2014-2015 President Robert W. Eichem, Chief Financial Officer, City of Boulder, Colorado.
Also at the business meeting, the association’s members elected a new GFOA president-elect and five new members of the association’s Executive Board. Marc Gonzales, Director, Department of Finance, Clackamas County, Oregon, is the new GFOA president-elect. He will succeed Johnston as president of the association in May 2016 at the annual conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. GFOA Executive Director Jeffrey L. Esser said Gonzales was elected by his peers because of his outstanding leadership ability and stature as a public finance professional. Gonzales has served on the Executive Board since 2012.
The five new members-at-large of the Executive Board will each serve a three-year term beginning immediately. New board members are: Robert Bishop, Deputy City Manager, City of St. John’s, Newfoundland; Jessica Brown-Linton, Assistant Chief Financial Officer, Durham, North Carolina; William Hall, Interim Director of Statewide Reporting, State of Vermont; Terry Stone, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Administration, Henrico County Public Schools, Virginia; and Ben Watkins, Director, Florida Division of Bond Finance.
