Join the GFOA on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. (EST) in its new satellite teleconference, Using e-Government and CRM Systems for Improving Efficiency and Service to Citizens. Through the use of e-government or constituent relationship management (CRM) technology, your government will learn how to improve the effectiveness of your organization's actions to better communicate with your citizens, while saving money.

The presentations in this teleconference include an e-Government and CRM Technologies Overview that focuses on how to use the telephone and Internet to your government's best advantage to not only improve public services to your citizens, but to save money while doing so. Other presentations include Organizing Efficiently for e-Government Service and Using Technology to Streamline Processes and Make Better Decisions, which will help organize your government's processes that must take place before this technology can go into effect.

Participating in this teleconference will show you ways to improve how your current government uses technology while saving you money at the same time.

Host A Downlink Site in Your Area
The GFOA is looking for organizations to host a downlink site in their area.  By hosting a downlink site, your staff can enjoy the convenience of attending this live satellite training without incurring travel expense.  Every organization that submits an application to host a downlink site will be approved whether you have as few as two or as many as 300 attendees. Do not let the technical requirements prevent you from hosting a downlink site.

This live satellite training will be broadcast from a television station in Chicago, Illinois, via a KU band and C-band satellite.  In order to view the broadcast, access to a steerable, analog satellite dish is required. This program is not broadcast via the Internet. Contact your organization’s training/AV director and ask if they can organize a satellite downlink site in your area. If your organization does not have satellite capability, try contacting your local school districts, colleges/junior colleges and universities, local library, city/county buildings, and/or police/fire departments.

Site Coordinator

The site coordinator is the primary person responsible for the program at your location. Most correspondence with this person will be through e-mail. The GFOA will produce a Site Coordinator Manual, which will be e-mailed prior to the broadcast. This manual will provide coordinators with detailed information on all of their responsibilities and will include the satellite coordinates. The GFOA typically receives the satellite coordinates 2-3 weeks prior to the broadcast.

Marketing

As a host downlink site, you are not responsible for the marketing of the program. However, anything you can do to help promote the training and your participation is always welcomed. Suggestions to help promote your downlink site include:

  • Invite local public and private leaders and representatives to attend.
  • Announce your organization’s participation in your weekly/monthly newsletter and/or other forms of media.

Costs

There are no direct costs to host a downlink site. However, if you have to rent a facility and/or equipment or decide to cater food/refreshments for the attendees, these are considered as out-of-pocket expenses and will not be reimbursed by the GFOA.  However, the GFOA will help to offset any costs with a revenue sharing program.

Revenue Sharing Program

To offset any costs for this program, the GFOA will offer a revenue sharing program. This will allow your organization to earn a percentage of the site’s net revenue based on the total number of paid attendees. Your organization can earn up to 25 percent for 50 or more paid participants. This opportunity is open to all state associations and governmental entities.

If your site has:                                                           Your organization will earn:

10 or more paid participants                                     10% of the net revenue for the site

20 or more paid participants                                     15% of the net revenue for the site

30 or more paid participants                                     20% of the net revenue for the site

50 or more paid participants                                     25% of the net revenue for the site

Complimentary Registration

I recognition of your support, your organization will receive two complimentary registrations if you have five or more attendees at your site.

Host Application

To register as a host downlink site, please complete the host application or contact Catlin Phillips, senior meeting manager, at cphillips@gfoa.org.  There is no deadline to submit an application.  However, the earlier you sign up to host a downlink site, the more exposure you will receive.
