ABOUT THE POSITION: The Marin County Department of Human Resources and the Department of Finance are conducting a recruitment for the position of Accounting Unit Manager with the Accounting Unit. Under general direction of the Department of Finance Division Chief, the Accounting Unit Manager (Accounting) oversees the general accounting and financial reporting functions of the Accounting Team in the Department of Finance, including managerial responsibility of 7 full-time accounting staff involving performance planning and staff evaluations. The primary responsibility of the Accounting Unit Manager is overseeing the maintenance of centralized accounting records, interpreting and explaining existing accounting and fiscal policies and procedures, as well as preparing, reviewing and analyzing complex accounting entries and reports. The Accounting Unit Manager makes decisions based upon a comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and of pronouncements and guidance issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
There is currently one (1) full-time vacancy in the Department of Finance Accounting unit.
ABOUT YOU: Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate will have proven experience in governmental accounting and financial reporting, drafting financial reports and working with internal and external clients. The ideal candidate is someone who has extensive experience in implementing and administering the applicable governmental accounting standards and pronouncements. This individual has extensive experience in a fast-paced customer service environment and in identifying process improvement opportunities. In addition, he/she has excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate and document appropriate methodologies utilized in accordance with governmental rules and regulations. The successful candidate is organized, dependable, flexible and customer-focused, and is a strategic/critical thinker who proactively recommends changes to policies, procedures and technology solutions. They are a proven leader with the ability to motivate staff; and independently seeks opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement. They function well in support of a team and thrives working in a fast-paced, progressive organization. Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate is desirable.
