The City of Gulfport is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented and seasoned Comptroller. In this time of unprecedented economic challenges, the Comptroller will be faced with making strategic recommendations, and will work with challenging departments and stakeholders. The Comptroller is responsible for managing the City’s comprehensive financial management system to include management and budget, accounting, financial reporting, treasury, utility billing, debt issues, payroll, fixed assets, and coordination of the annual audit by an independent Certified Public Accounting firm. The Comptroller will ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting requirements. The Comptroller will be responsible for implementing strategic planning and improvement processes. The Comptroller will provide financial analysis and audits of the City’s performance for senior management. This position reports directly to the Chief Administrator Officer and serves as a key member of the senior management team.
Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, public administration or a related field. Master’s degree or CPA desired. Must have a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, previous experience in governmental accounting preferred, including at least six year’s supervisory experience.
