Hiring Range: ACCOUNTANT I: $48,553.89 – $51,467.12 ACCOUNTANT II: $54,343.06 – $57,603.64 SENIOR ACCOUNT: $63,141.15 – $66,929.62

DEFINITION Under specified supervision, performs professional level accounting functions for the City of Brighton, which may include recording and reporting complex financial transactions, reviewing accounting records, and preparing financial statements and reports.

Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from level I or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience.

The ideal candidate has a very strong understanding of core networking concepts and Client/server enterprise environments. Must be able to work successfully in a team-oriented atmosphere that provides accurate information and excellent customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton Mission and Values.

Accountant I Perform journey-level work in the Accounting function, apply professional knowledge and skills to various financial and accounting problems and projects, and perform general accounting work and recording and reporting of financial transactions.

Accountant II Apply professional knowledge and skills to high level work in the Finance Department with an emphasis on the budgets, revenue forecasting, financial reporting, developing queries in the various finance modules, balancing the (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report) CAFR, unlimited subsidiary system, performing financial analysis. This position will also be cross-trained in the sales tax function, as well as capital asset and grant recordkeeping. Must perform general accounting work and recording and reporting of financial transactions.

Senior Accountant Perform high level work in the Finance Department with an emphasis on financial reporting. This position is the lead preparer for the monthly financial statements, annual audit and preparation of the City's CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report).

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED Receives direction from Assistant Finance Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Accountant I Principles of hardware and software computer operations. Develop and implement accounting system modifications; prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analyze. Monitor overall financial condition of the City. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Train user staff in the use of financial computer system hardware and software. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Independently review and correct any financial data. Participate in overall City planning from a financial viewpoint.

Accountant II Develop and implement accounting process modifications. Prepare a variety of financial statements, reports and analyzes. Implement governmental accounting principles and practices. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Develop queries (SQL) to extract information. Train user staff in the use of financial computer system hardware and software. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Independently review and correct any financial data.

Senior Accountant Learn City of Brighton revenue collection policies, goals and procedures. Analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action to be taken. Express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and other agencies. Develop and implement accounting system modifications; prepare a variety of financial statements, reports and analyzes. Monitor overall financial condition of the City. Implement governmental accounting principles and practices. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Train user staff in the use of financial computer system hardware and software. Maintain confidential information and handle sensitive or political situations with tact and diplomacy.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Accounting or a closely related field. Three (3) years of professional accounting experience. A CPA certification is desirable. Experience in SQL queries and financial reporting and analysis are desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License with a safe driving record.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
