Occupational Safety & Health Specialist, Grade 25 Montgomery County, MD Department of Finance Silver Spring, Maryland $64,708 – $107,346

The Department of Finance, Division of Risk Management is looking for an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist. The Division of Risk Management provides risk management programs and services to County departments and agencies, including Workers' Compensation, Automobile and General Liability claims processing, training and consulting in occupational safety and health, and consulting services for insurance and risk matters.

Duties of the Occupational Safety and Health Specialist include the implementing of occupational safety and health programs and the identification, assessment and elimination/reduction of occupational safety and health issues. Other duties also include the development of responses and the garnering of support within the departments/agencies serviced. Additionally, the employee is required to use evaluative thinking and program development skills.

This work directly impacts the quality of the occupational safety and health services provided to County managers in all departments and agencies and their employees and volunteers by eliminating or reducing exposure to adverse conditions and/or the potential for injuries and illnesses. Work is primarily performed in an office environment. An employee in this class visits various worksites to investigate accidents, injuries, inspects facilities, machines, equipment, materials, evaluates industrial hygiene issues and makes recommendations to reduce potential loss.

A criminal background and credit history check will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience:

Three (3) years professional experience in an Occupational Safety and Health related field Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
