Assistant Controller
The ideal candidate has strong financial reporting expertise and a proactive, solutions-driven approach to managing complex financial operations. They are well-versed in accounting standards and have the analytical acumen to research, interpret, and operationalize new governmental accounting pronouncements. As a strong and supportive leader, they adapt quickly to evolving standards, manage multiple projects effectively, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages growth, supports development and keeps teams engaged and challenged.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise multiple sections in the Accounting Division and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with accepted accounting principles and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Review Finance’s existing internal controls and identify, develop, and implement approved process improvement functions within Finance.
- Research and lead the implementation of Government Accounting Standards Board pronouncements to keep the City ahead of evolving standards.
- Manage the overall process for the preparation of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and coordinate annual audit efforts.
- Manage and supervise employees while fostering a motivating and supportive team environment.
- Present financial reports to City Council, Audit Committee, various Authority Boards, and management, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Certified Public Accountant CPA
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or related finance field)
- 8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
