Finance Senior Accountant

Reporting to the Deputy Finance Director, the Finance Senior Accountant performs advanced professional duties supporting the City’s day-to-day finance and accounting operations. Includes journal entries, grant administration, capital asset tracking, and financial reporting. Ensures timely reconciliation, prepares analyses for leadership, and maintains accurate fiscal records.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations
• Revenue/expense recognition; capital leases and improvement project finances
• Cash/investment monitoring and cash flow forecasting
• Assist with departmental, project, and organizational budgets
• Grant administration and pass-through grant tracking
• Fiscal year-end close and external audit support
• Recommend process improvements and staff training
• Communicate financial status and variances to Deputy Finance Director
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Microsoft Office (Excel) proficiency
• GAAP and fund accounting knowledge
• Budgeting, audits, and financial software experience
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Associates degree required; Bachelor’s preferred
• 3–5 years accounting and payroll experience (government preferred)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Driver’s License
• NDLC Auditor Certification within 1 year of hire

• Primarily office-based work; some light lifting or stooping
