Minnesota Housing is a mission-focused financial institution that finances and funds affordable housing. We are proactively recruiting to backfill an upcoming retirement, with the goal of cross-training with the incumbent prior to their retirement.
As a Senior Accountant you will manage, build, and prepare the Agency’s monthly financial statements for our State and Federal Appropriated fund indentures. In addition, you will provide technical accounting research and work with other teams to reconcile federal funds including the most recent Federal COVID funds for Emergency Rental Assistance 1 and 2, Homeowner Assistance Fund and other Federal programs.
Essential Job Duties
- Perform accurate and timely financial reporting and insightful financial analysis for the State and Federal Appropriated Fund indentures
- Complete subsidiary General Ledger (GL) account reconciliations using reports exported from the Application Oriented Designs (AOD) Emphasys accounting software
- Process month-end, adjusting, and year-end (13th month) journal entries in AOD General Ledger.
- Prepare Statement of Net Position (Balance Sheet), Statement of Revenue, Expenses and Changes in Net Position (Income Statement), and Statement of Cash Flows monthly
- Prepare quarterly financial analytical reports and associated audit schedules
- Balance the interfund accounts payable and accounts receivable accounts
- Reconcile loan accounts recorded in the Benedict, Group Inc. (BGI) multifamily loan system versus the General Ledger, ensuring both systems are accurate and in agreement
- Reconcile cash balances and prepare bank reconciliations for the federally funded programs: Emergency Rental Assistance 1 and 2 and Homeowner Assistance Fund
- Reconcile daily cash book to the Statewide Integrated Financials Tools (SWIFT) deposits
- Assist with the agency's Single Audit (the Uniform Guidance Single Audit) and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards report during interim and year end audit
- Assist with interim and fiscal year end annual audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will considered for this position.
Two (2) years of professional-level experience accounting experience including
- Preparing financial statements, including preparation of the Statement of Net Position (Balance Sheet) and the Statement of Revenue, Expenses and Changes in Net Position (Income Statement)
- Performing account reconciliations, such as bank reconciliations or reconciliations of the subsidiary general ledger accounts
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business may substitute for one (1) year of experience - or - an Associate’s degree these fields may substitute for six (6) months of experience.
PLUS
- Have professional level work experience preparing, reviewing, or analyzing the Statement of Cash Flows. (Weekly cash flow analysis does not meet this qualification unless it is in conjunction with preparing, reviewing, or analyzing the Statement of Cash Flows.)
- Intermediate experience in Microsoft Excel including proficiency in two of more of the following functions: vLookup, hLookup, Index/Match, or pivot tables
- Proficient in converting export files to Excel.
- Excellent communications skills
- Experience in analysis, problem-solving, and decision making to identify issues and problems, using the same skills to resolve the issues quickly and effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with governmental financial accounting
- Experience performing month-end reviews (Controller’s or Financial Review)
- Experience working as an accountant in a financial institution
- Working knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience completing accounting work in Application Oriented Design (AOD) Emphaysis accounting software and SWIFT (Statewide Integrated Financial Tools)
Annual Salary Range
- $26.14 - $38.38/hourly, $54,580 - $80,137/annually
