Due to the impending retirement of our Secretary-Treasurer, the Board of Trustees invites applications for the position of Associate Superintendent/Secretary-Treasurer for Grande Prairie Public School District

The District The Grande Prairie Public School District is a dynamic, innovative school jurisdiction providing a breadth of programs from pre-school to grade 12 for over 8200 students at 18 schools, supported by approximately 460 teachers and 340 staff. With the inclusion of Roy Bickell School in the Royal Oaks area in September 2017, four new schools for K-8 students have been added to our District in the last four years. We are also extremely pleased about the March 2017 approval by the Minister of Education of a replacement for the Grande Prairie Composite High School; it has been a priority of the District’s capital plan for several years. The District’s approved budget for 2017-18 is approximately $98 million.

The Position Reporting to the Superintendent/CEO, and supported by strong finance, corporate, transportation and facilities teams, the Associate Superintendent/Secretary Treasurer is responsible for overall financial and corporate administration of the District. As a key member of the senior leadership team, this role includes supervising the management of the financial affairs of the District and all of its schools, including banking operations, budget advice and training. You would be responsible for facilitating the successful planning and execution of all modernization and new construction projects, including development of the Facility Master Plan and capital project submissions. An Accounting Certification, Diploma in Business, Public Administration as a minimum is required; a degree in Commerce/Business Administration or MBA is preferred.
The Candidate Our District is seeking an approachable, innovative, collaborative and strategic thinker, with a strong background and hands-on experience in capital project management and budget systems used by school boards. The successful candidate will understand the vision and the culture of the District in relationships and shared decision making and work in support of both.
