The City of Winter Haven, FL seeks a highly motivated, financially savvy and competent professional to assist in managing all aspects of its municipal financial program to include budget development and oversight, investments, financial transaction processing, record keeping and reporting. Under the guidance and direction of the Finance Director, the Assistant Finance Director performs all financial related and required functions, manages a $142+ million budget, supervises accounting and purchasing operations and staff, and assures compliance with financial governance requirements.
The select candidate will have vast knowledge of advanced public accounting principles and practices; sound investment policy; laws and regulations involving complex financial record keeping, and a high degree of familiarity with financial information computer based data systems. Demonstrated leadership, analytic, problem-solving, sound judgment and decision making, and effective communication skills, abilities, and experience will also be evident.
Minimum education and training requirements for an Assistant Finance Director are possession of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, financial, public or business administration, or closely related field. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in local government financial administration involving a computer-based data information system, and at least two (2) years at the supervisory level. A CPA or Master’s degree may substitute for two years of supervisory experience.
In exchange for quality and dedicated service, the City offers a competitive salary ranging from $65,956 to $108,930, which is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience, and an excellent fringe benefit package inclusive of paid leave, health insurance and 401(a) Plan.
