Job Description: 

The City of Bowling Green, Kentucky is recruiting for the position of City Manager. The current manager is retiring after having served 12 years; the previous manager retired after serving 27 years. The City operates under a City Manager form of government, with a five-member Board of Commissioners comprised of a part-time mayor (four year term, current term expires at end of 2020, can run again) and four commissioners (two-year term). The City Manager is responsible for planning, directing and managing the activities of all City operations and functions, and recommending and implementing policies established by the Board. The manager oversees a budget of over $120 million, and ten departments with 464 full-time and over 300 part-time/seasonal employees.

Bowling Green is a growing, diverse city of over 65,200, located 55 miles north of Nashville, TN and less than 100 miles south of Louisville, KY. As the third largest city in Kentucky, Bowling Green is the educational, medical, and commercial center of a ten-county area of south central Kentucky, and home to Western Kentucky University, the GM Corvette Plant, Fruit of the Loom, and MAGNA Bowling Green Metal Forming. The successful City Manager candidate will have a strong background in finance and economic development, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a proven track record of success, be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be able to build on the strengths that a diverse community such as Bowling Green offers. Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in management, public administration, business administration or a related field, with several years of increasingly responsible management experience, including at least five years of experience as a senior manager in a moderate to large-size organization.
