Job Description: 

West Metro Fire Protection District is seeking people interested in a full-time career position as the Finance Director in our Finance Department. The position reports to the Fire Chief. This is responsible professional, accounting and administrative work in planning, organizing, and coordinating the activities for the District’s Finance.  Work involves supervising and participating in all general accounting, EMS billing and payroll activities of the District.  Work includes responsibility for directing and participating in receiving monies, maintaining accounts and budget controls, and preparation of financial statements or reports.  Work is performed with wide latitude for independent judgment and action, and is reviewed by the Fire Chief and Administrative Deputy Chief through conferences, reports and successful completion of year end objectives and performance appraisal. Thorough knowledge of governmental accounting standards and pronouncements, financial accounting standards, and generating accepted accounting principles. Thorough Knowledge of internal controls, as well as procedures and processes governing the receipt, custody and expenditure of the monies of a special district •Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment and standard clerical techniques as applied to the maintenance of the accounting system. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of special district fiscal administration, Understanding of the Tabor Amendments and its effect on special districts, Ability to analyze and solve a wide variety of accounting and fiscal problems, Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a group of professional clerical personnel. Ability to transform conceptual assignments into finished products that meet the objectives, Ability to research, analyze and identify trends, Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, including the ability to make accurate accounting entries, Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to technical and non- technical audiences. Thorough skills in modeling and electronic spreadsheets, Ability to comprehend complex laws and contracts, Willingness and ability to follow policies and procedures, Ability to design and implement systems, models, and procedures that are efficient, accurate, and reliable. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, District members, financial institutions and the public. Ability to work independently. Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.  A Bachelor's Degree (graduation from a 4 yr. college or university required, with major course work in accounting, finance and/or public administration), 5 years work related experience, thorough experience in recording investments, strong communication skills, supervisory experience, competent intermediate or advanced in spreadsheet (Excel) user, proficient in Microsoft Office. Must successfully pass a background investigation, polygraph, and physical examination. Preferred / Desired: Masters Degree, current CPA license, and experience in payroll and accounting software (High Plains, ADP, Fundware, and Telestaff).
