John Gilroy is the managing partner at The Oakmont Group, LLC, a management consulting company in the Washington, D.C. area. For the past twenty years, he has helped technology companies grow. Because of his success, companies and educational organizations have asked John to share his knowledge. Gilroy’s hallmark column “Ask the Computer Guy” ran for ten years every Sunday in The Washington Post.
Georgetown University noticed his ability and expertise and in 2011 the Associate Dean asked John to assemble a graduate level course in Marketing Technology Products and Services. After the popularity of that class, Georgetown invited him to speak to prospective students, lead customized seminars, moderate panels, and integrate the business community with the Technology Management Program.
In March of 2014, John won the Tropaia Award for Outstanding Faculty. The unintended consequence of his academic experience was noticing the gap between a student’s skill in social media and their ability in face-to-face networking. This experience resulted in a workshop called “The Unspoken Rules for Face to Face Networking.”
