Steven A. Solomon is the deputy director of the Technical Services Center of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) in Chicago, Illinois. The Technical Services Center is responsible for all of GFOA’s member services involving accounting, auditing, and financial reporting, which includes performing technical reviews of almost 5,000 financial reports and budgets of state and local governments submitted each year to GFOA’s professional recognition programs.

Mr. Solomon has 30 years of government finance officer experience in the areas of government financial reporting, internal controls, auditing, budgeting, finance, pensions, investments, and risk management. He has been an active member of GFOA for the past 28 years serving as a: 1) member of the Special Review Committee; 2) reviewer of the “Blue Book”; 3) author of articles for the Treasury Management Newsletter, GAAFR Review and Government Finance Review; 4) task force member for the best practice in financial policies book; 5) national trainer and frequent national conference speaker; 6) Advisor, Chair, Vice- Chair, and member of the CAAFR committee for over a decade; and most recently a 7) member of the GFOA Executive Board. Further, Steve is a past president of the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association, where he also served as the Chair of both the Standard Setting and Education Committees.

Before joining GFOA, Mr. Solomon served as the CFO/Director of Finance for Prince William County, Virginia. In this role he was responsible for supervising a department of 150 staff in the areas of Real Estate Assessment, Tax Administration, Treasury Management, Financial Reporting and Control, Purchasing, Risk Management and Debt Management.

Mr. Solomon received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he double majored in Accountancy and Economics. He also pursued his Masters in Public Policy degree from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
