Transportation Upgrades Linked to Economic Growth

“Best in class” public transportation systems provide cities with extensive benefits, according to the Smart Cities Council. A study of 35 global transportation systems makes a good case for making transportation improvements; the study found that “major cities stand to gain around $800 billion per year of economic opportunity from 2030 by upgrading their public transportation networks.” Transportation contributes greatly to a city’s competitiveness, and improvements to transportation lead to higher productivity and new economic activity, the study noted.
