Using Excel for Long-term Financial Planning

Presentation of financial trends, such as shifting expenditure composition (ex.salaries, benefits and other line items as a percentage of overall spending) can be enhanced via the use of interactive charts. In particular, a series of historic and budgeted data can be arranged in a data table and linked to a single pie chart which illustrates a specific fiscal period selected from a dropdown list. The presenter can then select from a range of years to demonstrate changing expenditures over time without having to create multiple charts and/or flip through multiple worksheets.
