Level: basic
Field of Study: Business Management & Organization
It's impossible to predict the severity, type, or timing, but every government will eventually face a disaster and must be ready to respond when it hits. How do you keep operations going? How do you adapt to keep the community safe? How do you recover once the disaster has passed? How do you pay for all of this?
It's far easier to answer these questions in advance of a disaster rather than in the midst of one. This session will outline the policies and practices that governments of different types and sizes have put in place to help ensure they are able to serve their communities when their luck runs out and the worst happens.
Learning Objectives
- Describe best practices related to disaster preparedness and recovery and business continuity
- Discuss the policies and practices local governments have put in place to prepare for disasters of different types
- Evaluate how well-prepared your government is to respond to a disaster
