Accountant III
Under the general direction of the Finance Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the following areas: coordinating with Human Resources for the Finance portion of processing payroll; monthly journal entries for various items, including fixed assets, investments and debt; Fleet inventory; monthly and quarterly financials; annual budget; annual audit; as well as other tasks deemed necessary. As a member of the Finance Team, this position will also be required to participate in cross training in other areas. This training may include, but is not limited to duties related to grants, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and utility billing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards
- Proficient knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Proficient knowledge of accounting terms and processes
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Knowledge to work in several areas within the Finance Department as needed.

o Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prefer four-year degree/certification in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Prefer minimum of 4 years’ experience working in municipal governmental accounting.
- Prefer minimum of 2 years’ supervisory/management experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
- Valid Drivers’ License with acceptable driving record.
- Proof of the following NIMS/FEMA certifications will obtain preference (must be completed within the first 2 years of employment)
o ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700
