GFOA’s Learning Pathways is a new initiative designed to assist government finance professionals in navigating their professional development to reach their goals along their career journey in partnership with GFOA. The government finance profession welcomes all talented professionals to join public service organizations to increase service and opportunities for all communities in the United States and Canada. No matter at what level a professional joins the profession, GFOA wants to be there to provide them with the industry standards for knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to be successful at their jobs and also know what is required of them to be able to advance to the next level in their careers.

In addition to providing the competency areas for each level of job in government finance, GFOA will provide an opportunity for all members and constituents to take an assessment examination that will identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities they currently possess for any position. The assessment will identify any competency gaps that professionals need to master to be proficient at that job level and provide them with a training roadmap of GFOA Education to support them in reaching that goal.
