Nominations for this year's award are due by April 30.

Nominate a GFOA Hero

The year 2020 has been a year like no other: a global pandemic, social and racial unrest, the economic downturn, and dozens of wildfires that raged across the Western United States. Amidst the challenges and chaos, finance officers quickly pivoted their operations to lead employees and rally their communities together.

GFOA would like to publicly recognize these influencers through its third annual “GFOA Hero” award. We seek nominations of such champions who have impacted their community in a time of health, financial, natural, or human-made crisis. Finance officers demonstrate leadership and strength by taking active steps for recovery and renewal.

Complete the below application to nominate a fellow GFOA active (government) member who is an unsung hero.* Applications are due April 30. Heroes will be recognized during  GFOA's Virtual Conference.

*Please note: Candidates must be GFOA active (government) members. Only one nomination will be considered from each jurisdiction. Self-nominations will not be considered.

Selection Process

  • Recognition will be given in honor of demonstrated leadership during a time of health, financial, natural, or human-made crisis.
  • A team composed of GFOA’s Executive Board members will review the applications and choose the recipients.

Applications are due April 30.
