Deputy Director of Finance

Are you a high-energy and results-focused finance professional looking to serve the community by serving as the Deputy Director of Finance for Virginia’s second largest city? The City of Chesapeake seeks an experienced professional to serve as Deputy Director of Finance. Through highly effective leadership skills, the deputy supports the CFO/Finance Director and manages and empowers others in a complex, changing environment. The successful candidate demonstrates emotional intelligence and can adapt their leadership to meet the needs of the Finance team and customers.

The deputy will join a talented and experienced finance staff in a City with a reputation for being stable and well-managed. This position is open because the previous incumbent has retired. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Deputy Director serves as second in command leading a team of 35 professionals. With the hiring of the new CFO in February, the team is building on past successes with a renewed focus on customer service, communication, staff development, and process improvement. This is an exciting time to join the team!

Requires a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Requires a minimum of six years of related, full-time equivalent experience. Advanced credentials or certifications in relevant bodies of knowledge are desirable (i.e. MPA, CPA, CPFO, public administration, leadership).

Hiring salary $150K to $160K DOQ/E.
