Staff Accountant
Responsibilities may include:
- General ledger management
o Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries
o Assist internal customers with GL coding
o Fund allocation maintenance
o Assist year-end close processes
- Accounting
o Assist accounts payable/accounts receivable operations
o Property metrics and analysis
o Grant Accounting
o Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Accounting Operations
o Prepare bank reconciliations
o Job/project costing
o Assist budget development
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or a related field AND experience in governmental accounting operations
OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Policies, procedures and practices of public and/or business administration, Authority regulations, policies and procedures;
- General laws and administrative policies governing public housing finance practices and procedures;
- GAAP, accounting principles, and internal controls; thorough knowledge of accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking/treasury, payroll, development accounting, grant accounting, and HUD Housing Choice Voucher Program accounting;
- Financial planning and control procedures, accounting and budget development
- Assist in development of new project proformas.
- Support project development
- Demonstrates mastery of Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as the ability to master new database and communications software quickly and easily;
- Ability to utilize automated accounting systems.
- Communicates effectively and collaboratively with individuals, and internal and external.
- Stakeholders; applies effective written and oral communication techniques to convey clear and timely messages.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects as well as the flexibility to handle shifting priorities as new projects are assigned;
- Ability to keep functioning effectively when under pressure; checks work to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
- Establishes and nurtures relationships with stakeholders, regularly inviting feedback and suggestions
- Ability to work cooperatively with and offer assistance to others.
- Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems, and make decisions
- Identifies and analyzes problems using analysis and critical thinking skills and offers best solution/recommendation or action for resolution; develops and creates ideas, processes and approaches.
- Takes responsibility for own work performance and balancing critical job requirements, initiating and completing work; manages time/conflict/stress; ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast paced environment.
- Adapts to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities.
Working Conditions:
- Able to work at a desk using computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse or other tracking device for up to 10 hours per day, (with required breaks). Able without assistance to enter, exit and drive a stock compact car.
