Brian Caputo

Brian Caputo became the Chief Operating Officer of the City of Aurora, Illinois, in September of 2025.  He returned to public service after completing distinguished careers in higher education, local government, and the military.  Brian served as the President of the College of DuPage, Illinois’ largest community college, from 2019 to 2024, and previously was the institution’s Vice President for Administrative Affairs and Chief Financial Officer.  Before moving into higher education, he served 26 years in municipal finance including nearly 19 years as the Chief Financial Officer/City Treasurer for the City of Aurora and two years as the Director of Finance/Treasurer of the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois.  Early in his professional career, he worked as an auditor for Price Waterhouse in Chicago.

Brian brought the local government perspective to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board as a Board Member from 2015 to 2025.  He is a past President of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association.  Additionally, Brian is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Public Finance Officer.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Accountancy degree from DePaul University, as well as a Master of Public Administration degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree from Northern Illinois University.  His doctoral fields of study were public administration, public policy, and government finance.
