Damein P. Baity, MBA
Damein P. Baity has over twenty years of accounting experience, which includes eighteen years in municipal government. He is currently employed by the City of Birmingham where he is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Birmingham Public Library system. Damein has served in various roles in both the government and private sector throughout his career including as an Auditor, Accountant, Assistant Controller, Principal Accountant and Budget Analyst. Mr. Baity lives by the quote, “Leadership is service, not a position.”
In addition to his work with the City of Birmingham, Damein is deeply committed to serving the community through leadership and mentorship. He serves on the Alabama Regional Medical Services Board and is an Alabama State University Foundation Board of Directors Emeritus. Damein is also passionate about supporting young people, volunteering as a youth mentor for students in the Birmingham school system.
He recently completed his term as Chair of the GFOA Black Caucus and now serves as its Immediate Past Chair. In addition, he currently serves on the Finance Committee of the GFOA Executive Board and as ex-officio member to the Debt Committee.
Damein earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Talladega College and his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Alabama State University. He is an inductee of the Alabama State University Fifty Under Fifty Alumni Award, an honor given to alumni that have made notable achievements, which have exhibited leadership and dedication within their profession and community. Damein has been selected as a fellow for the 2025 ICMA Leadership Institute on Race, Equity, and Inclusion. Damein is also a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.
