Kim started her government finance career with the City of Indianapolis in 2001, serving in various financial management roles. She served as Deputy Auditor for Marion County, and later was appointed Controller for the City of Lawrence in 2008. She joined the State of Indiana in 2014, serving in the role of Controller for the Indiana Department of Health, and the Chief Financial Officer for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. She is currently the Director of Accounting and Reporting for the Indiana State Auditor, where she oversees the financial reporting for the state, along with the Local Government Division. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Ball State University and a Master's in Accounting from Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
