Trey Hunter

Trey Hunter is the Capital Planning and Budgeting Program Manager for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. He's responsible for administering the nearly $12 Billion in funding across the Agency's Wastewater, Water, and Power enterprises which serve over 2.7 million people in the Bay Area.

Prior to assuming this position, Trey spent years working in various roles for the State of California including, as the head of Capital Finance and Sustainability for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), as a budget analyst and policy advisor for the California Governor at the Department of Finance.

Trey was born and raised in a rural part in southern New Mexico. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Government from New Mexico State University, he relocated to Austin, Texas prior to beginning graduate school. He left Austin for Sacramento, California where he earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Trey is a recipient of the American Society of Public Administration’s Rising Star in Government Award and a guest lecturer in graduate courses related to public sector budgeting. Trey has spent his education and career focusing on good government – and continues to obsess over the administration of public funds to achieve policy objectives. Trey has had the opportunity to live and work in many different areas but considers himself lucky to call the cool gray city of San Francisco home.
