Mathew Wasserburger

Mathew Wasserburger has over ten years of experience working in government finance, specifically with public safety divisions. As the Assistant Director of Fire Management Services for the City of Aurora, Colorado, Mathew manages all financial activities of the Fire Department, including accounting, payroll, budgeting, and capital planning. Working in partnership with the Fire Chief and City Management to ensure financial stability and efficient operations, Mathew has helped come up with financial strategies to address the needs of the whole community – residents, businesses, the municipal organization, and the fire personnel. In the last 8 years, Aurora Fire Rescue has been successful at added five new fire companies, developing an overtime model for peak-hour medical response units, transitioning from a 56-hour work week to 48-hour work week for firefighters, and implementing several new cancer reduction and mental wellness initiatives. Mathew holds a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado at Denver, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from Boston College.
