CPFO Spotlight: Andrea Rochea
Andrea Rocha is an accountant for the City of Yakima, Washington.
1. Why did you want to become a CPFO?
I wanted to become a CPFO to gain public finance knowledge in my current position as an Accountant II and to prepare for a leadership position.
2. What did you learn going through the process?
The CPFO program has taught me how to align my prior supervisory experience and training with current public finance best practices, ethics and leadership skills to better serve my government and community.
3. How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession?
I became a CPFO to show my dedication and credibility as a valued public finance officer as I prepare for a leadership role.
4. What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?
I encourage those interested in the CPFO program that it is a wealth of knowledge for any public finance officer who is new or experienced. This program not only provides knowledge of the seven competencies of public finance, but engages you to think strategically when faced with ever-changing laws and regulations. I joined the program with only 2.5 years of local government experience, completed the GFOA Accounting Academy, completed the GFOA CPFO program, and I am now signed up for the GFOA WPFN mentorship program. I look forward to continuing my education with GFOA.
