Why did you want to become a CPFO?

I pursued the CPFO designation as a way to deepen my understanding of public finance and to affirm my commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the field. I saw it as an opportunity to grow both technically and strategically, and to better serve the public through sound fiscal stewardship.

What did you learn going through the process?

The CPFO process was both rigorous and rewarding. It reinforced core principles across budgeting, treasury management, accounting, and risk assessment, while also expanding my perspective on strategic financial leadership in the public sector. It challenged me to think more holistically about financial sustainability and transparency.

How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?

Becoming a CPFO has been a humbling milestone. It has enhanced my ability to contribute more confidently and effectively to complex financial decisions, and it has opened doors for collaboration with other dedicated public finance professionals. I hope it continues to serve as a foundation for thoughtful leadership and innovation in my organization and community.

What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

I would wholeheartedly encourage others to pursue the CPFO designation. It’s a meaningful investment in your professional growth and an excellent way to benchmark your knowledge against best practices in government finance. The journey is demanding, but it’s also deeply fulfilling—and the public we serve deserves that level of dedication.
