I wanted to become a CPFO because I wanted to have a stronger foundation to build my career on and increase my knowledge in all areas of public finance. Having this certification along with 16+ years of experience in public finance gives me the confidence to be able to pursue higher level roles and be a more effective employee and steward of public funds.
What did you learn going through the process?
I gained more knowledge in areas of public finance that I had limited experience in previously and it also taught me more of the foundations of other areas that I already have experience in. It brought me more into the technical reasons of “why we do what we do”.
How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?
Becoming a CPFO has given me the confidence to pursue new, higher level roles in public finance and has given me greater knowledge that I hope to use to enhance my skills in the position I am currently in and to further my advancement in the future.
What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?
I would say that it will take dedication to studying and making time to really educate themselves and to complete each module. It is not a task to be taken lightly but in the end it is well worth it and the satisfaction you feel knowing that you completed this and now have this certification is well worth the effort and time spent.
