Why did you want to become a CPFO?

It’s a respected credential that demonstrates competency in all aspects of governmental finance including accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, debt management, and treasury management. 

What did you learn going through the process?

The process of preparing for the CPFO exams reinforced areas where I have limited experience, in particular debt management best practices.

How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?

I hope that becoming a CPFO will make me a more effective governmental financial professional; and I hope it demonstrates my dedication and commitment to the profession

What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

The CPFO exams and the related study materials cover a broad range of concepts and emphasize GFOA best practices.  The sooner you can learn and apply the concepts, the better.  So don’t’ put off becoming a CPFO.  Commit to the process and do it.
