CPFO Spotlight: Sage Glanton

CPFO Spotlight: Sage Glanton

Sage Glanton, CPFO, is a consultant for EY GPS

Why did you want to become a CPFO?

I chose to pursue the CPFO certification to further demonstrate my dedication and commitment to the public finance field. I feel that the need for skilled practitioners of public finance (especially at the state and local level) is more critical than ever and we should do all we can to expand our expertise to better serve our communities. The CPFO certification does that.

What did you learn going through the process?

The process reinforced the importance of being well rounded in public sector finance. I’ve worked in budgeting my entire career and have been exposed to other areas of public finance, but this process helped to provide additional context and support my understanding of the 'why'.

How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?

Becoming a CPFO has provided an additional level of understanding of government finance and reinforced my confidence that I can help deliver solutions to public sector organizations and the complex challenges that they face.

What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

Earning the CPFO certification will be one of the most important and valuable steps you can take in your career. The exam process will be tough, but GFOA provides the resources to assist in your journey. Take advantage of the CPFO Candidates Forum. You’ll find others who are either pursuing the certification or have completed the process who will provide you with help and encouragement along the way.
