CPFO Spotlight: Zane Martin
Adam Vaughn, CPFO, is budget and finance director for the City of Toppenish, Washington.
Why did you want to become a CPFO?
I felt that becoming a CPFO would provide me the opportunity to further educate myself on all sections of public finance and lead to me being a more well-rounded professional for my city’s Finance Department.
What did you learn going through the process?
I gained a greater understanding of the different subject areas of government finance that I did not have before and how these areas are woven together to make a government to be successful and efficient to its’ Citizenry.
How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?
The CPFO designation will allow me to provide greater insight when collaborating with colleagues about financial challenges and the confidence to bring solutions to those issues. Going through the CPFO program has also seared Best Practices in my mind and I look to implement those when possible to continue bettering the City.
What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?
I recommend the CPFO to any professional in government finance to expand their knowledge and skills to enhance the organization they serve.
