Job Description

The City of Hood River, Oregon (population 8,313), located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, is recruiting its next Finance Director. Situated at the confluence of Hood River and Columbia River, it offers uncompromised forest, river, and mountain beauty with a plethora of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

The Finance Director serves as a key member of the City’s management team and is responsible for all fiscal operations and investments. Serving under direction and supervision of the City Manager, the position oversees the Finance Department including; payroll, procurement, utility billing, parking and transient lodging tax customer service, and municipal court.

The City seeks a Finance Director that can demonstrate strong leadership and management abilities with excellent public finance expertise, communication skills, and an ability to effectively pursue, manage, and apply multiple fund resources. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to collaborative approaches and the ability to manage and plan for long term human resource needs. Experience with economic development and urban renewal, human resources, infrastructure funding, and long term strategic financial planning is desired.

Compensation is $101,273 - $124,553 plus excellent benefits

Education / Experience

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, and/or financial management and at least three years of financial management experience are required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of experience and an advanced degree in Finance, Public Administration, or related field, Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA), as well as previous public sector finance and human resources management experience is strongly preferred. Experience and/or training in Oregon budgeting and Urban Renewal fund management is highly desired.
